What each worktop costs
| Worktop | Price | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Laminate | €50 to €100 a metre | €800 to €2,000 fitted in a typical kitchen. Fitted the same day. |
| Solid wood | €150 to €300 a metre | Oiled on day one and every few months after. |
| Quartz | €300 to €750 a metre | From €2,200 fitted for a standard kitchen. Templated, then fitted 5 to 10 working days later. |
| Granite | €350 to €600 a metre | From €2,500 fitted for a standard kitchen. |
The extras on a stone worktop
Templating €100 to €200, fitting €300 to €600, cut-outs for the sink or hob €50 to €100 each, and upstands €75 to €150 a metre. Ask if they're in the price.
How it's done
- The old worktop comes off. The sink and hob are disconnected.
- For stone, a template is made and the worktop is cut off site.
- The new worktop goes on, the sink and hob go back in, and it's sealed.
Laminate and wood are usually a one-day job. With stone, you're without a worktop between templating and fitting unless a temporary one is put on.
Will my units take a stone worktop?
Most will. Stone is heavy, so the carcasses have to be sound and level. Old units with soft or swollen bases need packing or replacing first.
