Redesign the Kitchen Without Renovating
Respray, new doors, a new worktop and new handles on the units you already have.
Free, no obligation. One local fitter prices it, not five.
Short answerIf the units are sound, respray the doors (from €700 for a small kitchen) or fit new doors and a worktop (€1,350 to €5,000), and keep the layout.
When the units are sound
If the carcasses are dry, square and the doors still close, the box behind the door doesn't need replacing. A redesign without renovating changes everything you see and nothing you don't: the fronts, the worktop, the handles, the light.
Option 1: respray the doors you have
€700 to €1,000 for a small kitchen of up to 10 doors, a day on site. €1,250 to €2,000 for 10 to 20 doors, and €2,000 to €4,500 for a very large kitchen with an island. Solid wood, painted wood, MDF and many foils take it once they're sanded and primed.
Option 2: new doors and drawer fronts
Made-to-measure doors start at €48 for a plain door and €55 for a shaker or handleless door, before handles. Fitted with a new worktop on your existing units: €1,350 to €5,000.
Option 3: a new worktop
A worktop changes a kitchen more than people expect. Per metre: €50 to €100 for laminate, €150 to €300 for solid wood, €300 to €750 for quartz fitted and €350 to €600 for granite.
Small things that finish it
- New handles in one finish throughout.
- Lighting under the wall units.
- A new sink and tap in the same place: no new pipes.
- Plinths and end panels to match the new doors.
When it isn't worth it
If the carcasses are swollen from a leak, the layout doesn't work, or you want to move the sink or cooker anyway, spend the money on new units instead. Ideas by budget shows where the line falls.

Questions people ask
Can you redesign a kitchen without replacing it?
Yes, if the units are sound: respray or replace the doors and drawer fronts, change the worktop, handles and lighting, and keep the layout.
How much does a kitchen respray cost in Ireland?
€700 to €1,000 for a small kitchen, up to €2,000 to €4,500 for a very large one with an island.
Is it cheaper to replace doors or respray?
Not always. Respraying 10 to 15 doors is €1,250 to €1,400. Fifteen new plain doors are about €720 supplied, before drawer fronts, handles and fitting. Respray or new doors.
